If you are moving out of a residence, you’ll want to make sure you take care of as many things ahead of time as you can to make your move day as stress-free as possible. It’s also best if you can be present when your goods are being loaded onto the truck, in case the drivers have questions or something comes up. Being prepared with a checklist for moving will allow you to be more available the day of the move. Below are some moving tips and tricks to help ensure a smooth move. Quick Moving Tips:

If you live in a congested area, block off a parking spot outside your building (e.g. have friends park in a row along the street and do not move until the truck arrives). The closer the truck can get to your house, the better your chances are of not incurring a long carry charge. Most apartment complexes require you to reserve a specific time slot if you need to use the elevator during your move. Make sure to arrange this ahead of time with your landlord or building manager.

Make sure you understand all the paperwork you sign before the driver leaves. If you find something confusing, ask your driver to explain it before you sign it.
Provide the driver with your destination contact information. Take down any information the driver can provide such as his cell phone. If something changes, you won't have to wait to be contacted.
Find out as many details as you can prior to the driver leaving your residence.
If the driver attempts to give you a delivery date, keep in mind that it is really only an estimate at the time of loading. Many factors can change the schedule for the driver, so try to remain flexible. Ask the driver to call you with changes so that you can adjust your plans accordingly. If you have a delivery spread (a sequence of 2 or more days that your shipment can be delivered on and still be considered on time) understand that you can and may be delivered on any one of those days.
Take one last sweep of the house before the driver leaves. Look through your moving checklist and in all closets, shelves, in the garage, attic, crawl space, storage unit, under the stairs, on the walls and any place else things may be hiding. You do not want to find out, after the driver is on the way that something was left behind.
